Jack Kerouac’s “On the Road” is a classic American literature work. Kerouac writes about his experiences in Cheyenne, Wyoming during “Wild West Days” on his way to Denver via Longmont.
“The stars seemed to get brighter the more we climbed the High Plains. We were in Wyoming now … As the truck reached the outskirts of Cheyenne we saw the high red lights of the local radio station, and suddenly we were bucking through a great crowd of people that poured along both sidewalks. ‘Hell’s bells, it’s Wild West Week,’ said Slim.”
That’s how Kerouac described the outskirts of Cheyenne in July 1947 from the back of a pick up truck traveling from Nebraska, probably on the Lincoln Highway.

So, was it 1947 or 1957 - ? I'm not familiar enough with the story to know.

Okay people, this short film is the last homage to the Mayflower Bar and Restaurant. The Mayflower is now the Club USG. I have heard various rumors as to what happened there, which don't matter.

Bravo Alan! Great job combining the story line with the past and present. Brought back fun memories and I learned a few things about Cheyenne too. I look forward to more of your films. Good luck

Good job. I enjoyed the blend of then and now, the sound and look of the type written words, the beat of the drums and chants of the Indians woven through Kerouac's words. Very cool.

I liked it Alan - all but the piano player. I thought adding the highschoolers at the end added to the piece. Nice work.

I've never been to Frontier Days and I live in Denver. Though I know who Jack Kerouac was, this made me want to know more about both he and Cheyenne. Nice piece Alan.

Alan I really enjoyed your film, it made me realize that Cheyenne in the 21st Century is as Jack Kerouac experienced it on his trip just a different cast of characters. You blended the two together brillantly. Good job and good luck.

Loved the typewriter and the music - the sound effects. And the interviews with the high schoolers - perfect! Great job Alan.

I loved the way it showed me the part of Wyoming that I have not as yet visited. But I will get there from Powell one of these days. Nicely done.
